Hopefully by now you will have got through the public holiday payroll processing and successfully processed the payment for labour day. (That's a lot of P's right there)...
I am still finding a lot of clients that are not awarding their employees an Alternative Leave day when they have worked on the Public Holiday.
Remember if the day is an ordinary working day and the employee works the day, they are entitled to time and one half AND be awarded an Alternative Leave day.
The Alternative Leave day should be recorded in the payroll system as being earned.
The employee can then take the day at another mutually agreed time. There is an obligation to then record the date and payment of the Alternative Leave day taken.
